Feast Days in Tammuz

Rosh Chodesh (Head of the month) – Tammuz 1 (June 23, 2020)

More Info

This month is linked with the Hebrew letter Chet, which means light radiating from your eyes. The constellation of the month is Cancer – the crab. The tribe of Ruben is linked with the month of Tamuz. The color/stone for the month is Red/Carnelian.

This is the start of the summer season. It was during this month that Israel sinned in the wilderness with the golden calf and caused the first tablets of the law to be broken on the 17th of Tamuz. This begins a three week period terminating on the 9th of Av, commemorating the destruction of the Temple. As this month is associated with Ruben who although he was the first born he sinned and lost his place as the first born. But we also see a redemptive side to him as well, as he was noted as the one brother who wanted to go back after it was safe and rescue his brother Joseph from the pit and restore him to their father Jacob. The constellation of the month is Cancer – represented by a crab which has a hard shell. It is a time to search our hearts and ask for our stony heart to be removed and a heart of flesh put in its place.
